Ruth asks…
How much does LASIK cost?
I want to get laser surgery on my eyes, because I hate wearing glasses and can't do contacts.
How much does it generally cost for both eyes combined?
admin answers:
If you are considering LASIK you need to examine the costs. Cost is often a deterrent for many, but many surgeons will offer financing plans. Prices usually range from around $899 - $1499 per eye. Before having LASIK surgery please find the right surgeon and make sure that LASIK is the right vision correction procedure for you. Best of luck!

How much does a Lasik procedure cost and is it right for me?
as a child I've always had poor vision. Not enough to require glasses all the time but i would need them to look at the chalkboard and to read. I'm 28 now and although my vision has not prevented me from doing anything I do, i still wonder how nice it would be to have perfect vision. How long does it last and how much does it cost? Thank you for your help

I had to wear glasses in middle and high school to read the black board as well and to watch T.V. But otherwise my eyes weren't that bad either. But by my senior year they started getting worse and I got contact lenses and continued to wear them for years (through my twenties and most of my thirties) as my eyesight got worse and worse. I had to wear them or glasses all of the time or I could not see anything but a great big blur and I wondered like you are how it would be to have perfect vision. I wanted it forever but felt like I could not afford it and was scared of it too. Finally I went through with it last September and it is about the best thing I have ever done for myself. I only wish I had done it many years ago. It cost me approximately $4500.00 which I financed for two years with no interest. I only have another year to pay on it. It is so worth it! After surgery, my eyes had/have to be checked by my regular eye physician at one day, one week, one month, three months, six months, and one year intervals. At one year my eyes should be stable and be at the prescription they will stay at without an adjustment. So far I have been to each appt. Except the one year and am seeing/reading 20/20. I will see where they are next month. It is important to choose a very good doctor with great recommendations. Mine has performed many surgeries, was chosen by my eye doctor who I trust (he even sent his wife and daughter there), he is the official eye surgeon for two major sports teams in our state, etc. Also, he guarantees my eyes. That means that if I need an adjustment in the future to make my focus sharper if begins to slip back I will get that free of charge as long as I make each of those required appointments during the first year. As we age, we will have to end of wearing reading glasses unfortunately. There is nothing to be done about that. I suppose that our eyes can get bad again too as we get into really old age. You are so young and will not have to worry about that for a very long time. Perfect vision is fantastic! Better than I even imagined. Just be sure to check out everything especially your surgeon. Get a great one even if it costs you a bit more. Good Luck!

how much does a lasik surgery in europe cost?
a friend of mine wants to make lasik surgery in ITALY? do u know how much, even approximately, will it cost her?

Lasik eye surgery is very safe nowadays. My cousin got her dental implants and Lasik surgery in India by a company called Indian Health Guru Consultants. The Price for dental and Lasik surgery is very less in India. She paid 25% of the price she was quoted in America.
Indian Health Guru Consultants is very famous in India They arrange Dental surgery, jaw surgery, Lasik eye surgery, Dental Implants etc for foreign patients in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and magazines- about their patient stories.
They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low cost, as dental and eye surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

Can I deduct the cost of lasik surgery as a medical expense?
I had lasik surgery this year and I started wondering if I itemize can I deduct lasik as a medical expense or since it is a cosmetic or unnecessary procedure would it be disqualified as a deduction?
admin answers:
You can deduct it if it is to correct "defective vision". LASIK is mentioned by name at http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-drop/rr-03-57.pdf as being for the correction of bodily disfunction and therefore a legitimate medical expense that may be deducted. For tax purposes, "cosmetic" surgery is surgery that is to make you look better to others (facelifts, breast implants, etc.), not surgery to help you see normally.
A. "You can include in medical expenses the amount you pay for eye surgery to treat defective vision, such as laser eye surgery or radial keratotomy. "
b. "...laser eye surgery is allowed under § 213(d)(9) because the surgery is a procedure that meaningfully promotes the proper function of the body. Vision correction with eyeglasses or contact lenses qualifies as medical care. See Rev. Rul. 74-429, 1974-2 C.B. 83. Eye surgery to correct defective vision, including laser procedures such as LASIK and radial keratotomy, corrects a dysfunction of the body. Accordingly, the cost of the laser eye surgery is an expense for medical care within the meaning of § 213(d) that B may deduct under § 213 (subject to the limitations of that section)."
c. You can deduct "Surgery to improve defective vision, such as laser eye surgery".
D. "The cost of items such as false teeth, prescription eyeglasses or contact lenses, laser eye surgery, hearing aids, crutches, wheelchairs, and guide dogs for the blind or deaf are deductible medical expenses."

What is the average cost of lasik or PRK for your eyes?
I want to have mine done and I went to a eye doctor today just to kinda check it out and all went well and they set up a plan for me to make payments and stuff but I was wondering if they are reasonable in the cost to do the procedure. Anyone have any idea as to the cost of this ? Thanks.
admin answers:
Hi, my name is Dr. Jay Lustbader, and I am an ophthalmologist with LasikPlus.
You will find that the cost of Lasik or PRK will vary from provider to provider. When comparing prices, there are several important factors to keep in mind. One is what technology you are getting for the price. Some surgeons offer all-laser Lasik, while others are still using a blade. Some surgeons offer custom wavefront treatments, others do not. You want to be sure you are getting the most up-to-date technology for the price you pay. A second consideration is whether the price includes coverage for enhancements, if an additional touch-up is needed in the future. Finally, in addition to price, you should consider the experience of the surgeon and the quality of the staff when deciding where to have the procedure done.
The best way to investigate these issues and to find out if Lasik is right for you is to have a thorough exam and consultation with a doctor. At LasikPlus, we provide a free comprehensive Lasik exam and consultation using the latest technology.
