Questions About Post Lasik Astigmatism

Ruth asks…

Astigmatism post LASIK surgery?

I had LASIK surgery approximately 6 weeks ago, my perscription for my right eye pre surgery was -3.75. After my first visit to the optometrist 1 week post surgery I was told that my perscription for my right eye was +0.75, -0.75, 30. Now 6 weeks after surgery my perscription for my right eye is +0.25, -0.75 i.e. that although my farsighted perscription has declined I still have an astigmatism of -0.75 whic had not changed in the last 5 weeks. The result of the astigmatism is that objects are blurred both at near and far distances, causing severe headaches when woking on a computer!

My question is, is there likely to be any further healing/change to the astigmatism over the coming months?

admin answers:

I hope so... My eyesight sucks and I'd like to get rid of the Astigmatism by having LASIK some time soon...

Maria asks…

How clearly should I be seeing 5 days post-LASIK surgery?

I am beginning to become concerned, although my surgeon says I'm doing fine. I had major astigmatism which I was told could not be completely corrected. Things are now generally blurry EXCEPT they are pretty clear when wearing sunglasses in daylight. Is this normal? When does everything finally fall into place? When should I push the "panic" button that this hasn't worked? Thanks!

admin answers:

If sunglasses help then it is probably just glare that is causing your blurred vision. You've just had part of your cornea sliced off with a laser, it will be swollen and trying to heal itself. The swelling will cause light to scatter as it enters your eye making your vision blurred. If you wear sunglasses less light gets into your eye so it scatters less.
I don't know what the healing rate for you will be, everyone heals at different rates. Just keep going to your aftercare appointments and just keep asking the doctor. A good clinic will only have qualified doctors or opticians doing your after-cares. I do know of some clinics that use non-qualified retail staff to do it! Ask who you are seeing, if they are not qualified then alarm bells should be ringing!!

Mary asks…

What are the post lasik results of people who had pre lasik scripts of more than -6.00?

I recently had Lasik a week ago with a a pre-lasik prescription of -6.5 to -7.00 with astigmatism. I would like to know of the experiences/results of people who have had the procedure done, with a similar pre-script grade like mine. I am currently still experiencing haloes, reduction in visual sharpness (blurriness) in low light areas & close up, & occasionally distance reading. I would like to know how long it took for others to recover, or if they have needed retreatment post lasik?

admin answers:

Lasik is often more of a six-month process than a "20 Minute Miracle". When you have a high refractive error, the probability of a slower vision recovery and the need for enhancement surgery is elevated.

Regression of Lasik's effect is very common for people who are myopic (nearsighted, shortsighted) more than about 6.00 diopters.

It is possible that your surgeon deliberately overcorrected you into hyperopia (farsighted, longsighted) vision to allow regression to bring you back to plano (no refractive error). It is also possible that you were corrected to plano and have regressed to become slightly myopic. The description of your symptoms indicates you may be hyperopic.

At around three months postop you will have a good idea if enhancement surgery will be recommended. You can always wait longer and if your wound healing has been slow it may be a good idea to wait until six months postop.

Poor vision in low light and halos from light sources is commonly reported during the early stages of healing, especially for those with high refractive error.

Joseph asks…

Is it normal that my 20/20 vision fluctuate to 20/25 5 days post op LASIK treatment?

I had LASIK treatment last week due to my high astigmatism (500/500). My first post-op check up ( 3 days post-op) findings was that I gained 20/20 vision. The second post-op ( 1 week) findings became 20/25. Also, the degree of astigmatism went from 100/100 to 200/200 coming from those post-op check ups. Is this normal? Will it get worse or go back to a normal 20/20?

admin answers:

Yes, this is normal.

Sandra asks…

Post-Pharco Cataract & LASIK?

I had pharco cataract surgery 2 months ago for PSC with a AcrySof Toric IOL. My vision now is +1.25 with minimal Astigmatism at -0.50.

My questions are:

Would LASIK or Piggy-back IOL be recommended to correct my small amount of refractive error?

Would the LASIK just correct my distant vision or would it also enable me to see near objects clearly as well?

Just need to clarify since I know that with cataract surgery, my focusing ability is now gone, so would LASIK be advisable for just +1.25 of distant error if this is the case?

Also, newer LASIK technology now enables Presbyopia to be corrected. Since Presbyopia is the degeneration of focusing ability of the eye on near objects, would such LASIK help the focusing ability of my IOL implanted eye in anyway?

Or would I be able to only correct refractive error of one distant only, and will still need glasses for other distances?

Thanks!

admin answers:

"Would LASIK or Piggy-back IOL be recommended to correct my small amount of refractive error?"

probably lasik. But no one here can really answer that question, b/c none of us have seen your eye.

"Would the LASIK just correct my distant vision or would it also enable me to see near objects clearly as well?"

DISTANCE ONLY

"Just need to clarify since I know that with cataract surgery, my focusing ability is now gone, so would LASIK be advisable for just +1.25 of distant error if this is the case?"

thats a matter of opinion. Debatable.

"Also, newer LASIK technology now enables Presbyopia to be corrected."

not really.

"Since Presbyopia is the degeneration of focusing ability of the eye on near objects, would such LASIK help the focusing ability of my IOL implanted eye in anyway?"

probably not.

"Or would I be able to only correct refractive error of one distant only, and will still need glasses for other distances?"

YES. You got it.

Questions About Laser Vision Correction Cost

Joseph asks…

Is vision-correction eye laser surgery safe? Long term effects? Cost?

Looking for answers from people who've undergone the procedure or from trained medical specialists.

admin answers:

It is safe but the most common side effect is dry eyes.

John asks…

laser vision correction?

I have myopia, so I was wondering how much would correcting my vision would aproximately cost??

admin answers:

I had mine done near Baton Rouge, La and it cost me around $1800. But where I live the Eye Clinic charges around $4000 no lie. So totally shop around and check out reviews of the patients, look on-line see if you can find any negative comments about the prospective place. How many patients they do, success rate, etc. Good Luck!!!!

Linda asks…

Poll: Do you wear glasses, contacts, had laser eye surgery, or don't need vision correction?

I'm getting contacts on Wednesday and I'm concerned that they will cost a lot. How much are they depending on the amount of pairs and wearing period? Please reply and have a great day! :-)

admin answers:

I wear contacts most of the time. 6 contacts last 12 weeks. Dont remember how much they cost because I buy 1 year supply at a time.

Thomas asks…

Anyone had laser eye surgery/Lasik/vision correction?

Just curious how much it costs? My insurance covers 15% of the costs if I do it with a doctor they approve of. Thinking about getting it done later this year.

admin answers:

PLENTY of people here have. Our office just went down to $1750 per eye ($3500 total for both eyes). Thats just under $3000 if you have a 15% disc. You realize your insurance isn't "covering" 15%, right? They've just inked a deal that the surgeon will take 15% less. Its the same on your end, but not on the surgeon's end

Ruth asks…

I want to get my vision and I want to know more about laser/surgical eye correction?

I'm tired of wearing glasses and don't want to bother with contacts, but I want to see clearly under my own power. What are my options? Can it fix my vision to 20/20 perminantly? What are the costs? What does the procedure consist of? Is it worth it? Any other info/facts you could give?

admin answers:

It's definetely worth it, like a .0001% risk with a good doctor and you can get perfect vision for maybe 5-10 years? Costs are in the thousands but it pays back for money spent on lenses... Try google?

Questions About Lasik Price Range

Jenny asks…

price range of lasik hair removal?

admin answers:

I've done it a few times (for underarms)... About $300 per treatment.. It takes about 3-5 treatments for hair to being permanently gone..

But for other parts of the body price differs, just both underarms alone cost $300... The legs were about $1200 and other parts of the body would be other prices.

I don't recommend getting it though...
First you go in, thinking it will be almost painless and after a treatment or two it will be gone forever... No.

You go in, get numbing cream for about a half hour
then they put the lazer machine against your skin and it HURTS a lot, like little rubber bands plucking against your skin multiple times until it feels raw

You have to go a minimum 3 times to get the permanent result, and you have to go with your hair cycle, otherwise you are screwed and have to get more treatments.

Waxing is a lot easier and less painful compared to laser treatment.

Maria asks…

What is the price range ?

For getting Lasik done ?? I don't have anything like asigmatism or anything like that so I would like to get Lasik done . Please give me a price range for getting it done.
Thanks!

admin answers:

The average cost per eye is around $1500 to $2050. It is a pricey procedure.

Linda asks…

Lasik vs Intralasik, can you please tell me the pros and cons for each procedure?

Hell and thanks for taking some time to read my question.

I have been wondering if I should have the Lasik or Intralasik performed in my eyes. If you can tell me what the risks are for each procedure as well as their benefits and a price range if it possible. I don't have any major health issues and I consider myself in good health.

Any advice will really help me to make this decision.

Thanks again

admin answers:

Well, if it were ME, I would ask the surgeon what would be best for my situation, my tear layer, my corneal thickness. What are the differences in results with people that have had both done with my same sort of refractive error. There are too mnay variables to make a real educated decision from what you have told me. You really do not get to make the final decision on your own. Your Doctor needs to make that decision with you considering all the information that is yours alone. IT is not like picking the color of a shirt you are buying. Ask your doctor these questions and make sure you can get the best Doctor you can find. These are EYES, not hubcaps!

Mary asks…

Some LASIK questions?

After reading the LASIK question on the home page, it reminded me of my dream to get it. I want to know some stuff.

1. What are the price ranges for LASIK surgery?

2. Do I really have to wear shades or goggles after they're done fixing my eyes?

3. Does my improved vision wear off over time and require me to have the surgery done again?

Thanks!

admin answers:

1) It's very variable; Start around $1400/eye

2) at least for a while. The biggest headache is is amount of drops you have to use.

3) It's possible that over years, your vision will change, but that's just getting older.

John asks…

how much is to get lasik eye surgery in new jersey?

i want to kno the price range

admin answers:

Don't get lasik eye surgery it doesn't fix your eyes but creates a new one and it just isn't good believe me
even my optometrist says it bad but hey its your eyes just do one eye at a time this way if the mess up they don't ruin both your eyes
your eyes are your most precious and important thing you see the world through them

Questions About Lasik Eye Surgery Complications

Sandra asks…

Questions about Lasik eye surgery...?

Hi, I am going to study abroad in Japan from the 31st of march till the beginning of august and right now - I have the opportunity to have Lasik eye surgery (I'm in Australia). My eyes are pretty bad but my surgeon (well respected, practicing for more than 20 years) has assured me that they are still doable. He said after the initial treatment, the follow up consultation the next day and the 4 week consultation after that - I will be fine for travel.

My family however have scared me saying what if complications arise while I'm in japan. There is around 7 weeks from the time I have the surgery, to the time I leave - is that enough time to deal with (if there are) any complications? How long after Lasik surgery do complications usually arise?

Is it easy enough to find help if I need it for my eyes while I'm away?

Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

admin answers:

You should be fine after that 4 wk appointment. The most common side effects post-Lasik are dry eyes and glare at night. Your doctor should talk to you about addressing both of these problems in your pre- or post-op care. If there are other side effects you'll know within days to weeks. Because you are traveling to a developed nation, you should have care available to you. Have fun abroad!

Laura asks…

Is LASIK eye surgery really safe?

Hello, Just a couple questions. I was reading about the difference between LASIK and PRK and it seems like PRK may be a safer procedure. I am concerned about the risks of Laser eye surgery (such as complications later in life, the cornea flap from the LASIK never healing, dry eyes, loss in visual quality. etc)
and I was wondering which procedure is better to undergo, LASIK or PRK? Also potential blindness is mentioned, risks etc.. Are these likely? PRK seems safer to me (from what I've read..) Can you clear this up? Thank you!
p.s. I know a consultation would help me get info, but I wanted to ask here first! :)

admin answers:

Well first of all its extremely important to have the right doctor who knows what he/she is doing.. My mom had lasik eye surgery about 6 years ago and it was proven to be successful. Her eyes fully healed, she had no complications, and the visual quality of her eyes have not worsen over the years. Although, she did have dry eyes for the first 2 years and she had used eye liquid drops. But now her eyes aren't that dry anymore

Heres a good website that compares Lasik and prk:

http://www.prk.com/LASIKvsPRK.html

Maria asks…

lasik eye surgery good or no?

Im thinking of having eye lasik surgery. I personally have astigmatism and know the risks etc.. but mainly want to ask people what complications they had or none and do they think it was worthwhile and worth the money or not.. Dry irritated eyes post op seem to be a bg lasting side effect.. Many people have this?

admin answers:

It works great at least for me find a qualitfied surgeon and yes the eyes in the beginning need to be lubrificated regularly but now its only from time to time but wow now I can see and dam that is so much fun!

Mary asks…

Lasik eye surgery question?

I'm a 19 year old male and I have poor eye sight. Usually I wear contacts, but as some of you know they are pretty expensive. My dad really wants me to get lasik eye surgery, especially since I'm about to get kicked off my parents' insurance plan. I have some questions:
1. Does it hurt?
2. What are the chances of complications during surgery?
3. What are the chances of me going blind?
Thanks, I'm really nervous about this operation...half of me wants to do it, the other half doesn't.

admin answers:

I'm about to get it done. I asked those questions too so I'll share what they told me - but really I suggest you make an appointment because the appointment is free and you can ask them everything you need to know. Also, during the appointment, they will make sure to see whether you are a good candidate or not. If there seems to be a lot of risk, they will tell you that you do not qualify.

1. No. Plus you are given valium to calm you beforehand (and also relax your body), and antibiotic drops to keep your eyes clean and free of infection afterwards.
2. The prescreenings are supposed to detect any chances of complications beforehand, but the actual surgery is about a minute so they tell me.
3. When you have poor eyesight, it is often because the shape of your eye is not perfectly round, so that the lens of your eye doesn't properly reach the back of you eye (which "records" sight). The surgery reshapes the lens, not the back of the eye
HOWEVER, I'm not the one with the doctor's degree so I would say, go get a free consultation because you can ask them everything you want and you'll feel a lot less nervous about it afterwards. Goodluck!

Sharon asks…

I have been thinking about getting lasik eye surgery, but I am a little scared.?

Afraid that if I do yrs later there will be some talk on the news about how lasik surgery has been proven to be harmful. For those of you who had it done would you share your exsperience with me.Have there been any complications? Are you satisfied? I am so tired of wearing glasses and contacts seem so complicated.

admin answers:

Yes, complications do occur, in a percentage of cases, from the minor to the very serious.

About 96% of people, even if they do have some side effects would still recommend the procedure to a friend.

(Most common side effects:
Rx not as near zero as hoped for.
Dry eyes, temporarily or permanently.
Haloes and glare at night, temporarily or permanently.)

The essential thing about contact lens wear is that the Rx can be changed if the eyes do, and that if there are any problems the lenses can be changed or discontinued.
To my mind that flexibility is worth a little inconvenience, but that is a personal decision.
Opting for laser treatment, certain risks have to be taken on board as possible lasting effects. Hence the consent from that is to be talked through and agreed to. (sample below, along with the FDA Lasik site.)

Questions About Lasik Md

Sharon asks…

Why would the lasik md have the most important parts inside the lasik surgery?

admin answers:

Because they would take care of the whole process from the beginning to the end.

Lizzie asks…

What's the most popular and most successful laser eye surgery clinic? Is it LASIK MD?

admin answers:

Hi – LASIK MD is Canada’s most popular laser eye surgery clinic. In 2010, LASIK MD performed over 70,000 procedures, more than half of all laser vision correction procedures in Canada. LASIK MD also has the title of being the largest provider of laser vision correction in North America based on procedure volume.

With regards to our results, 98% of our patients achieve at least 20/40 vision (the level required to drive a car without glasses or contact lenses) with just one treatment. This improves to 100% for the few people who undergo an enhancement procedure.

Hope those numbers help,

LASIK MD – Canada’s laser vision correction provider

Lisa asks…

What do you think of Shobha Tandon, MD, PhD for Lasik Surgery? This is in Union City, CA.?

Did you have a lasik surgery with her? Did she do a good job? Did you have to come back for corrections?

admin answers:

I do not know that doctor. I had my lasik done by Jay Bansal, M.D. I saw him in his Santa Rosa office, but he also practices at these addresses:

LaserVue
1174 Castro Street, Suite 112
Mountain View, California 94040

LaserVue
1700 California Street, Suite 280
San Francisco, California 94109

This was my experience with Dr. Bansal:

I was about 20/250 before Lasik surgery last year. The procedure was painless, probably due to the Valium they gave me. The ride home (as a passenger, of course) was fairly uncomfortable, mainly due to light sensitivity. The doctor gave me dark goggles, but the light was still too bright. I was in some pain once I got home (maybe 3 hours post procedure), but I had some left over Vicodin, and took two doses of that. The Vicodin took the edge off. Slept fine that night. Woke up the next morning, and I COULD SEE FINE! Hallelujah! I was jazzed up about that. I drove myself to my one day check up (an 2 hour round trip) with no problems. For that check up, I was seeing at 20/25, less than 24 hours after the surgery. I went to work that afternoon (doing ultrasound which really requires you to use your eyes). For my one week check up, I was seeing between 20/20 and 20/15. Other than the touch of pain I had post procedure, before I went to bed for the night, I had no other problems. I would do it again in a heartbeat! No more glasses, no more contacts, no more cleaning solutions and saline!

My advice would be to talk to everyone....talk to your family, friends and co-workers. Then ask your family, friends and co-workers to talk to their family, friends and co-workers....you get the idea. I found my surgeon by word of mouth. I asked everyone I know if they had Lasiks (or knew anyone who had Lasiks), and what doctor they went to. Almost everyone I talked to in my area went to the surgeon I ended up going to, and everyone was perfectly satisfied. I went into the procedure very confident!

Just one other thing....I went to a doctor who used computerized, laser equipment. No knives were involved. But, it cost me a pretty penny. I paid $5500 for both eyes, but I was not comfortable going to a doctor that advertised in the newspaper for $500 per eye. Sometimes you get what you pay for! Good luck to you!

Betty asks…

Has anyone went for a LASIK MD before?

For anyone who doesnt know, LASIK MD is basically is a laser eye procedure which improves your vision to near 20/20 sight. I have read the testimonials and they sound convincing but I am still hesitiant. I need to know someone who has and if it is really worth it.

for more infor check this website www.lasikmd.ca

admin answers:

I work for a LASIK center - (Laser Eye Center - Dr Gary Kawesch - San Jose & Pleasanton, CA) and I've also had LASIK done there. I don't know anything about LASIK MD, but what you should look for in a surgeon is...

*experience level
*how long he/she has been in practice
*success rate
*ranges of corrections they have done

Go in for a consultation @ any LASIK center. They should do quite a few tests (your exam should be 1 1/2 - 2 hours) and they can tell you which procedures (which laser type etc) you're a candidate for then also do some research on the lasers.

Sandy asks…

LASIK MD Or Herzig for laser eye surgery?

Hi,

I am planning on getting LASIK's done, I am wondering what others experiences have been because I need to know which is the best place to go for this procedure. I already did a free consult at Bochner. I have pretty strong astigmatism and myopia, both of which they said they can correct fully and they said I should go for the LASIK's procedure. I should of asked the details of my results where, because they tested corneal strength and size of pupils, etc.. but I don't know if I am in great shape or just "borderline passed", on my consults to other places, I will find out exactly.

Where is the best place to go? I am considering either LASIK MD or Herzig.. I hear you get more accuracy with the laser vs. the old steel blade. My main concern is I don't want any chances of any screw ups or "side effects" like halos, double vision, night vision problems that I hear some people are having.

Thanks,

admin answers:

I'm going to go to LASIK MD. I checked out their website and it just seems more, safe and they seem really confident.

I never even heard of Herzig...

Plus, LMD says if you don't have 20/20 vision after your surgery, it's for free.

((Then again.. There's always a risk for lasik surgery... But a small percent. I think it was like a 99% success rate.))

Questions About Lasik Vision Correction Problems

Ken asks…

How would I know if Lasik vision correction is right for me?

I have a damaged tear duct due to an injury. My vision problem has nothing to do with the injury. I wear the same proscription I did as a child.

admin answers:

Go to the doctor they will give u a free evaluation

Lisa asks…

lasik vision correction?

i will be getting the lasik vision correction done on wens. it costs a lot more than i expected. i will be getting the traditional lasik done and not the "custom lasik". can anyone tell me from experience if i should save and get the custom done or should just get it now with the traditional. i've heard that some people have had issues with headaches and nightvision problems... ?! i was so excited this morning, but now i'm a little skeptical!

admin answers:

I got the custom done in August. Custom corrects out higher-order aberrations that mostly affect your night vision. I got it because my night vision is generally bad and I didn't want it to get worse (I hear that can happen with lasik, whether it be custom or regular). In the end my night vision is about the same as before with glasses.

I recommend you talk to your doctor. If the higher order aberrations in your eyes are large, and you are concerned about night vision, you might want to get custom.

Sandy asks…

Vision Correction Procedures?

I've been considering having my vision corrected by LASEK, PRK, or whatever procedure I'm found to need. From what I've discovered so far, it seems like LASIK is definitely a bad decision. Also, the more research I do, the more it seems like no matter which procedure I qualify for or choose it is highly likely to adversely affect me for the rest of my days. What I'm finding in my research is that the surgeons and their practices seem to be withholding very important information from their clients and downplaying the possible problems in an effort to just make as much profit as possible without regard for the patients' well-being. I'm curious to hear from people who have had, or know of friends who have had, any of these procedures and the results you or they experienced. Please just answer if you have true, good information as this is an extremely important decision I am trying to make. Thanks! :)

admin answers:

I have several friends who have had Lasik and they are all thrilled with the results and have had no problems whatsoever. Note, though, that we are all over 40 and they still need to wear reading glasses, so it's important to have realistic expectations.

That said, though, I would never do it myself for the exact reasons you mentioned.

Ruth asks…

does lasik make objects appear smaller for nearsightedness like glasses and contacts do?

Glasses and contacts correct my vision but not 100%. I am nearsighted. I just went to the ophthalmologist and he couldn't give me corrections to see perfectly because though adding strength to my prescription would make the letters on the wall a little clearer, they were so tiny I could not read anyway. I am wondering if Lasik would correct my eyesight without this problem. I tried to google it but couldn't find any answer. Anyone knows?

admin answers:

Lasik corrects vision by correcting your natural lens. Make an appointment to see a doctor that does lasik, and he/she can explain it in detail and tell you if he/she can help or not.

Joseph asks…

Question about Mikey Ways vision...?

I know he had glasses then he got lasik. But since Gerard and Mikey are brothers wouldnt Gerard have a problem with his eyes to? i have bad vision to but no brothers or sisters so i dont know if siblings would have the same problem. and does any one know how old he was when he needed vision correction? thanks 4 ur answers!
babysally are u sure thats Mikey on myspace I mean it could be some one pretending to be him and u said hes on there alot, i dont think so he seems like he would be very very busy with the band and all

admin answers:

Gerard's eye are fine. I have never seen him wear glasses. At the young age of 9, Mikey was struck with the affliction known as nearsightedness. Unable to see such things as the chalkboard, the movie screen (or anything more than 5 feet away) he was forced to get corrective lenses.

Mikey and his glasses spent many fruitful years together. They saw each other through the good times, as well as the bad. In May of 2006 this friendship came to a crashing halt. Michael's glasses met their end tragically, by way of Lasik eye surgery.

Questions About Lasik Procedure Cost

Sharon asks…

How much did your lasik procedure cost? How much would it be for me? I have 3.50 on both eyes.?

thanks

admin answers:

My LASIK procedure cost almost 6,000 dollars. My vision was -4.25 in both eyes. I had my right eye re-touch 6 months after the first procedure and it didn't cost anything.

William asks…

how much lasik procedure cost?

admin answers:

Lasik eye surgery is very safe nowadays. My cousin got her dental implants and Lasik surgery in India by a company called Indian Health Guru Consultants. The Price for dental and Lasik surgery is very less in India. She paid 25% of the price she was quoted in America.

Indian Health Guru Consultants is very famous in India They arrange Dental surgery, jaw surgery, Lasik eye surgery, Dental Implants etc for foreign patients in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and magazines- about their patient stories.
They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low cost, as dental and eye surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

Hope this helps.

Betty asks…

when was the first eye lasik procedure done, what did it cost back then, how have they changed over the years?

can you have lasik done more than once in your lifetime? can you see both far and close with lasik? Did you have lasik done? I see where lasik (here) is down to $250 per eye, is that reasonable or a scam?
ha, my trusted cataract surgeon (well his office manager) insisted that cataract surgery (both eyes) costs only $1,300 if that (he said, to have both eyes done). Your comment about $2,000 makes me question that office's (all there) experience.

admin answers:

LASIK has been around for almost 20 years. I would be very CAREFUL with cheap surgery. Usually there is a lot of fine print and the lowest price is for very minimal correction, if you have a high power you are gonna pay more. And most of the cheap places use dated equipment that is old technology. Old technology means you are taking more risk with the outcome. For the latest all laser custom LASIK you should expect to pay around $2000 per eye. Most surgeons will include a set time where you can have an enhancement done at no extra charge. Also, LASIK will only correct your distance prescription, so if you are over 40 you will need reading glasses for fine print. And if you are under 40, someday you will need reading glasses after LASIK. I tell my patients who are interested that you wouldn't shop around for a bargin heart surgery that used 20 year old technology. You only get one pair of eyes, so be careful with them.

Maria asks…

Where is the best place to get a LASIK eye Surgery? Factoring in both the quality of the procedure and cost.?

admin answers:

Lasik and Laser eye surgery is very safe nowadays. My cousin got her dental implants and lasik surgery in India by a company called Forerunners Healthcare. The Price for dental and lasik surgery is very less in India. She paid 25% of the price she was quoted in America.

Forerunners Healthcare is very famous in India They arrange Dental surgery, jaw surgery, lasik eye surgery, Dental Implants etc for foreign patients in India.

My insurance benefit says 85 % of charge for LASIK procedure , does this mean i have to pay 85 % ???

admin answers:

Yes I have not heard of any one paying for Laser procedures, but may be these new companies to grab (buy) business. May have added this clause, if it may be, it will be as 15% Insurance company will pay.

Questions About Lasik Eye Center

Carol asks…

where is a good lasik eye center in tn prefer cookeville area?

well i'm liking to get my eyes corrected maybe next year I should be a candidate for lasik but I was wondering if anyone knows a good lasik center in Tennessee cookeville Nashville area would be best for me please if anyone knows of any let me know and if you recently had yours done can you give me the price range that would help me too.

admin answers:

I got Lasik correction last month and have not had any problems. It took me forever to get up the nerves to get the surgery done though, now I'm glad I did. I spent hours at the clinic inquiring about how the surgery work (Lasik vs PRK) and what my expectations were. My Alabama eye doctor was very helpful. Try visiting your local Tennessee laser vision clinic and make an appointment for a consultation. Http://www.locallaservisioncenters.com/Tennessee-Laser-Vision-Correction.html

Hope this helps

David asks…

What is the BEST eye lasik center in Northern Virginia?

admin answers:

You might need to talk to the doctor before deciding

George asks…

This is very important to me. I want to make a marketing plan for a lasik eye surgery center.can anyone help?

i want to give a report about a marketing plan to the lasik eye surgey center that i work in. can someone give some ideas. some offers that we can give that can attract customers. please give me helpfull ideas

admin answers:

You will need to gather the following data,
1) Potential Market Size .. Get statistics
2) Spending power of potential target market .. How much are they willing to spend and if they can have benefectors or insurance for the surgery.
3) What your potential market like and dislike ..
4) location of your clinic, transport, parking ect.
5) Competitors and what are they doing to attract the patients and how much they charge.
6) Know your overheads and cost .
7) How much you have before you run out of capital and how long can you wait before the business really picks up.
8) Payment collection from the customers..

Analyse that on a SWOT table. Peruse every detail then you may come up with a tactic or strategy to win your customers.

All the ideas here may work for short term but it may not be good for long term without analysing the above.

Usually once you have collected all the data from the above the solution or idea of a marketing tactic or strategy can come easily.

It is good to have a dream and work it but you may need to be really ready to face all the challenges. Remember that any ideas that you think of can and will be copied i not bettered by your competitors. So when you are ready to go fishing for clients, cover all bases and go all out!

Good Luck.

If you like my suggestions and have already gathered the data please do contact me for further advise. I am more then ready to assist.

Sandy asks…

whats the best lasik eye center to go to in spokane wa?

admin answers:

SPOKANE Lasik Eye Surgery -
Infolasikeyesurgery.cosmeticplace.net
Spokane, WA

Restore Vision Centers Spokane -
Inforestorevisioncentersspokane.com
(888) 698-1743 - 2204 E 29th Ave, Spokane, WA.

I have heard good things about both. I would check them out by searching them out on the web. Thouroughly checking into the doctor's back grounds and then visiting each place personally.

You can do some research on your doctor for complaints in WA state by checking

www.doh.wa.gov/hsqa/Complaint.htm

Links to verify doctor's license and how to file a complaint; discussion board, state ... Washington. Lookup Doctor License Info

www.medlawplus.com/doctorcomplaints/?doctorcomplaints.tpl

You do have to have the specific doctor information to look up on these sites, so you will have to do some clinic research first.

Best of luck!

Mandy asks…

Lasik Eye Center Suck/never do a Lasik surgery there!!?

They mess up my eyes, i am even worst that when i used to wear glasses, what can i do? i am freaking out. i have this terribel headache and my vision is getting worst by the day. i can barely see now.. please advise

admin answers:

That sucks! I work at a LASIK center in San Jose, CA and Pleasanton, CA.

It takes 3 months for your vision to stabilize. So it may just be that. Some patients don't see 20/20 within the first day w/LASIK. Some take 24-48 hours to notice improvement. Hopefully you were given eye drops to use after surgery - antibiotics (use for 5 days afterwards), anti-inflammatory(also 5 days afterwards), and artificial tears (for 1 month after) to use.

I hope you did not go to a "bargain center" for surgery. I know those $499/eye sounds appealing and definitely affordable but those are usually Dr's who are just starting out and need to gain the experience. Even centers that offer "lifetime guarantees" are a joke as most of them won't even be around 5-10 years later when you will need something.

Your Questions About Lasik Lasek

Mandy asks…

How does deterioration work after Lasik, Lasek, or PRK eye surgery?

I'm wondering basically what the question asks!

right now i have 20/200 uncorrected - 20/20 corrected vision. I was wondering if I get one of the following eye surgeries, will my vision just deteriorate to the same degree at which it is now?

Thanks

admin answers:

LASIK eye surgery is a medical procedure that can correct your vision by altering the physical properties of your eye. Unlike traditional surgical procedures that depend upon the skills and steadiness of the surgeon's hand, advanced LASIK eye surgery is computer controlled.

The more progressive LASIK surgery centers perform in-depth analysis of your eyes as an evaluation procedure to determine if you're a good candidate for the LASIK procedure. The evaluation process, which is largely controlled by computer itself, maps the overall physical makeup of each eye. A traditional eye exam determines your visual abilities and then an exhaustive computer analysis determines if your eyes can be enhanced by the LASIK procedure.

In addition to determining whether or not you're a good candidate for LASIK, the procedure also records quite a bit of data that's specific to your eyes. If you choose to proceed with the LASIK surgery, this data is used to program the computer controlled LASIK equipment to insure that your eyes are modified exactly in the proper manner so as to provide maximum benefit.

LASIK eye surgery is relatively safe and it can free you from glasses and contacts. Before you commit to LASIK surgery, make sure that you consider all the advantages and disadvantages of having the procedure. Ask the doctor lots of questions so that you can make an informed decision about whether LASIK eye surgery is the right choice for you.

William asks…

How long after LASIK/LASEK before you can drink alcohol?

Got a birthday party coming up!

admin answers:

It's not so much the surgery that will keep you from alcohol, but the medications you may be taking.
They'll probably give you a mild sedative prior to the procedure - no alcohol after that.
Then, there's the scratchy/itchy sensation that can make it VERY hard to fall asleep, so you'll also get a sleeping pill. You can't have alcohol prior to taking a sleeper.
But by the third day after the procedure, you shouldn't have problems.

Robert asks…

What is the difference between Wavefront Lasik, LASEK, and PRK?

admin answers:

"The primary difference between conventional Lasik and wavefront custom Lasik is the mapping system that guides the laser. Wavefront can be used for virtually all laser eye surgery techniques including All-Laser Lasik, Lasik, PRK, LASEK, and Epi-Lasik."

http://www.usaeyes.org/lasik/faq/lasek.htm

http://www.usaeyes.org/lasik/faq/epi-lasik.htm

I could keep copying info that I think is good from these, but there is so much good information. It talks about how after PRK, there was a problem with a little haziness sometimes...because of the injury to the eye, cells were sent there, and created a "haze." And with Lasik, there is a flap, but the cornea is "fooled" into thinking there is no injury, so it won't produce the haze.

Ask your opthalmologist lots of questions because that's his job, so don't feel bad about wanting to be clear about your options.

Donna asks…

Where is a good place to get lasek or lasik operation within Toronto?

Where is a good place to get operations within Hamilton, or Toronto, Canada? (or some other cities nearby) I'd also like to know the average price. Thank you!

admin answers:

I believe TLC has a location in Toronto. I got my laser training in Windsor Canada and I do believe they have another facility in Toronto. As to price, don't know. Just give them a phone call.

Laura asks…

For those of you who've had either Lasik, Lasek or PRK, what type of profile were you given if at all any?

The reason why I ask is because I am getting PRK done in 12 days and I also have a PT test coming up in approximately 6 weeks. I don't want to get the surgery right now if it's going to hinder my ability to take my APFT.

Thanks in advance!

admin answers:

30 days from time of surgery for my PRK I had done in April 2008. You will have to bring in all of your surgery and post-op notes from the doctor up to one month afterwards to be cleared. If you are getting it done at a military treatment facility, you will get all this done by them.
Make sure to have the 2-3 days after your surgery as time off. I slept those two days and just laid around the house with my sunglasses on and drank plenty of water. It wasnt bad, and to not have to worry about glasses now, is beyond words awesome. Good luck with it and hope you get the results I did..

I went from -7 in both eyes to 20/20 in both..magic!

Your Questions About Lasik Eye Surgery Cost

Robert asks…

How much does lasik eye surgery cost?

What is the approximate cost of lasik eye vision correction surgery?

admin answers:

Hi Ash - The cost of LASIK or PRK can vary from anywhere between $500 per eye to $2000 per eye, and there are multiple reasons for the large range in price. Typically, the cost for patients with high prescriptions, hyperopia (farsightedness) or astigmatism is slightly higher than those with low or moderate myopia (nearsightedness). Technology is also a determining factor in the cost of the procedure. At LASIK MD, we offer Standard and Custom LASIK or PRK. Advanced Custom Wavefront offers better quality outcomes for those patients with high prescriptions, thin corneas and larger-than-average pupils. Custom LASIK requires technology that is costlier, and is therefore offered at a higher price.

The best way to find out if you’re a candidate is to undergo a preoperative consultation. LASIK MD offers free consultations, so try and find a laser vision correction centre near you that offers this service for free. LASIK MD also offers a Lowest Price Guarantee, so this is something else you may want to look for to ensure you’re getting the best price from your laser vision correction provider.

Hope that helps,

Daniel asks…

What will lasik eye surgery cost?

Want to get lasik eye surgery after basic and was wondering how much it costs normally. Do they offer military discounts or any other discounts? Will they usually do a payment plan?

admin answers:

Anywhere from $1000 per eye to about $4000 per. I paid a little over $2000 per eye last year to have it done by the same physician who performs on the Dallas Cowboys. Good results so far.

Lisa asks…

How much does lasik eye surgery cost nowadays?

I've been wanting lasik eye surgery for a long while now coz I'm so sick of contacts and glasses. Is there monthly payments or payment in full? And will getting lasik get rid of astigmatism, or lazy eyes as well??

admin answers:

Mine was about $2K per eye. But it depends on the method of surgery, the extensiveness of corrective work needed, and the doctor you use.
Most places have financing available. I think it can help astigmatism, but I don't know about lazy eye. Consultations are usually free of charge so be sure to visit a few doctors to find the one that's best for you.

These are your eyes, you don't want to bargain shop, and the price is worth it.

Nancy asks…

How much does Lasik eye surgery cost in Mexico? And is it safe there?

I have a cousin that got Lasik eye surgery in Mexico for about $400 for each eye. Is this a typical price in Mexico? In the U.S., prices are typically three times as much, like in the $1,500 to $2,000 range for each eye. I'm just a little hesitant doing any kind of surgery in Mexico.

I currently live in Dallas but I'm looking for affordable Lasik. Thanks

admin answers:

Stay away from mexico for any surgery. It costs more here because a Professional does it. It costs less in mexico because a wanna be US Citizen doctor does it.

Linda asks…

How much would LASIK eye surgery cost for me?

I'm 15 and I currently wear Toric Contact lense, meaning I have an astigmatism. My contacts cost between $550 - $600 a year. Would it be best for me just to get LASIK?

Also I live in south Florida, any well know LASIK surgeons down here?

admin answers:

Im not in the US, Im in the UK, but my Lasik cost me £4000 including the interest for finance. My prescription was quite high and I had an astigmatism too but it was well worth it. It's great to be free of glasses and contacts. Contact lenses are not worth it in the long term.
