Astigmatism post LASIK surgery?
I had LASIK surgery approximately 6 weeks ago, my perscription for my right eye pre surgery was -3.75. After my first visit to the optometrist 1 week post surgery I was told that my perscription for my right eye was +0.75, -0.75, 30. Now 6 weeks after surgery my perscription for my right eye is +0.25, -0.75 i.e. that although my farsighted perscription has declined I still have an astigmatism of -0.75 whic had not changed in the last 5 weeks. The result of the astigmatism is that objects are blurred both at near and far distances, causing severe headaches when woking on a computer!
My question is, is there likely to be any further healing/change to the astigmatism over the coming months?

I hope so... My eyesight sucks and I'd like to get rid of the Astigmatism by having LASIK some time soon...

How clearly should I be seeing 5 days post-LASIK surgery?
I am beginning to become concerned, although my surgeon says I'm doing fine. I had major astigmatism which I was told could not be completely corrected. Things are now generally blurry EXCEPT they are pretty clear when wearing sunglasses in daylight. Is this normal? When does everything finally fall into place? When should I push the "panic" button that this hasn't worked? Thanks!
admin answers:
If sunglasses help then it is probably just glare that is causing your blurred vision. You've just had part of your cornea sliced off with a laser, it will be swollen and trying to heal itself. The swelling will cause light to scatter as it enters your eye making your vision blurred. If you wear sunglasses less light gets into your eye so it scatters less.
I don't know what the healing rate for you will be, everyone heals at different rates. Just keep going to your aftercare appointments and just keep asking the doctor. A good clinic will only have qualified doctors or opticians doing your after-cares. I do know of some clinics that use non-qualified retail staff to do it! Ask who you are seeing, if they are not qualified then alarm bells should be ringing!!

What are the post lasik results of people who had pre lasik scripts of more than -6.00?
I recently had Lasik a week ago with a a pre-lasik prescription of -6.5 to -7.00 with astigmatism. I would like to know of the experiences/results of people who have had the procedure done, with a similar pre-script grade like mine. I am currently still experiencing haloes, reduction in visual sharpness (blurriness) in low light areas & close up, & occasionally distance reading. I would like to know how long it took for others to recover, or if they have needed retreatment post lasik?
admin answers:
Lasik is often more of a six-month process than a "20 Minute Miracle". When you have a high refractive error, the probability of a slower vision recovery and the need for enhancement surgery is elevated.
Regression of Lasik's effect is very common for people who are myopic (nearsighted, shortsighted) more than about 6.00 diopters.

It is possible that your surgeon deliberately overcorrected you into hyperopia (farsighted, longsighted) vision to allow regression to bring you back to plano (no refractive error). It is also possible that you were corrected to plano and have regressed to become slightly myopic. The description of your symptoms indicates you may be hyperopic.

At around three months postop you will have a good idea if enhancement surgery will be recommended. You can always wait longer and if your wound healing has been slow it may be a good idea to wait until six months postop.

Poor vision in low light and halos from light sources is commonly reported during the early stages of healing, especially for those with high refractive error.

Is it normal that my 20/20 vision fluctuate to 20/25 5 days post op LASIK treatment?
I had LASIK treatment last week due to my high astigmatism (500/500). My first post-op check up ( 3 days post-op) findings was that I gained 20/20 vision. The second post-op ( 1 week) findings became 20/25. Also, the degree of astigmatism went from 100/100 to 200/200 coming from those post-op check ups. Is this normal? Will it get worse or go back to a normal 20/20?
admin answers:
Yes, this is normal.

Post-Pharco Cataract & LASIK?
I had pharco cataract surgery 2 months ago for PSC with a AcrySof Toric IOL. My vision now is +1.25 with minimal Astigmatism at -0.50.
My questions are:
Would LASIK or Piggy-back IOL be recommended to correct my small amount of refractive error?
Would the LASIK just correct my distant vision or would it also enable me to see near objects clearly as well?
Just need to clarify since I know that with cataract surgery, my focusing ability is now gone, so would LASIK be advisable for just +1.25 of distant error if this is the case?
Also, newer LASIK technology now enables Presbyopia to be corrected. Since Presbyopia is the degeneration of focusing ability of the eye on near objects, would such LASIK help the focusing ability of my IOL implanted eye in anyway?
Or would I be able to only correct refractive error of one distant only, and will still need glasses for other distances?
Thanks!

"Would LASIK or Piggy-back IOL be recommended to correct my small amount of refractive error?"
probably lasik. But no one here can really answer that question, b/c none of us have seen your eye.
"Would the LASIK just correct my distant vision or would it also enable me to see near objects clearly as well?"
DISTANCE ONLY
"Just need to clarify since I know that with cataract surgery, my focusing ability is now gone, so would LASIK be advisable for just +1.25 of distant error if this is the case?"
thats a matter of opinion. Debatable.
"Also, newer LASIK technology now enables Presbyopia to be corrected."
not really.
"Since Presbyopia is the degeneration of focusing ability of the eye on near objects, would such LASIK help the focusing ability of my IOL implanted eye in anyway?"
probably not.
"Or would I be able to only correct refractive error of one distant only, and will still need glasses for other distances?"
YES. You got it.
